Reflecting the North York Moors, and welcome to the new blog

August 27, 2014

Hello everyone and welcome to the new blog, I've decided to create this one which is associated directly with the website after receiving some advice about PR so I hope you all like it.  Most of my time this year has been spent preparing for a very sizeable exhibition at Danby Moors Centre based on the wildlife around that area called "Spirited Wildlife".  The show centres around my own work and that of two other north-east based scupltresses, namely Stef Ottevanger and Emma Stothard.  Stef works in bronze cast resin and ceramic and through her very careful observation and accurate attention to anatomy her pieces capture beautifully the life and movement and even the personality of the creatures that she studies.  Emma's enchanting willow and wire sculptures have a proven track record of popularity, having completed a huge array of commissions including one to HRH Prince Charles, which she got to present personally to him, and that popularity has continued in this show.

I was delighted with the final hang of the exhibition and I feel that due to the hard work we all put in, (a nod here to the staff of the Danby moors Centre, and a special thank you to the volunteer crew who were out in extra force I was told, and showed fantastic enthusiasm and eagerness to assist) the work has a really lovely flow to it and blends so well together.  I do hope I get to work with these very talented artists again in the near future.  The show runs until the 16th of September and I will be doing a special night on the 6th where I'll bore/regale you all with a little talk about the kind of things that inspire and motivate me to make art, and how I go about doing it, and also treat you to some music as I'll play a few of the songs that come from the same kind of places, accompanied by a fine violinist, hopefully it should be a lovely evening.  Tickets for this event are five pounds and booking is advised.  You can do this on the following link:

Next up, I'm currently working on some new work now to be sent to a crop of other galleries in the Autumn including Blossom Street Gallery in York, and Coast Gallery at Scarborough.  I'll leave you with a few images of the exhibition opening at Danby.

All the best,

Andy
